Osaka and Missing

Now, i am in Osaka city. I went to Osaka Imperial Castle Museum. It is beautiful and from the top of the castle you can view the whole of Osaka. The leaves starts to change colors.

But towards the end of the day i am feeling sad, i lost my handphone, worried about my sister's second operation and i really miss my boyfriend back in Kuala Lumpur.

I really miss home.

Tokyo and Ondori

Today i will depart to Osaka. After about 5 bookstores, i found crochet books. It is in, Tsutaya bookstore in Roponggi. Selection not so much, i just bought 1 book on crochet and it is not Ondori. But there a lot of books on Art & Design.

I found people in Tokyo are beautiful, stylish and polite even their cab drivers.

Greetings from the Land of Ondori

I am blogging from Tokyo, Japan. This my first trip to Japan. Weather is nice and cool. 3 things in my mind second hand ipod, ondori handicraft books and Harajuku.

Yesterday, i went to Harajuku. Part of must to do list in Tokyo. The epicenter of Harajuku fashion that hit globally sometime ago. It is a vibrant place with cool people expressing their individual creatively. Partly comical and beyond our imagination. Then, i tasted their crepe, banana chocolates. It is so soft and lots of cream.

I found this beautiful crochet shawl and dress in Harajuku.

More quirky stuff in Harajuku. I love Harajuku.

p/s i will post pictures later

Talinn, Estonia 2008

This was taken during my short cruise trip to Talinn, Estonia in 2008.
Their knitting is so exquisite. This lovely auntie was showing some of her snow cap. As you can see her baby suit are so adorable.

There is rare moment when you really like your own picture. For me this is the moment. I love this picture and fall in love with that traditional yellow dress.

Pampering Activities

Dear friends. I'm sorry for the late posting and updating. My old laptop kaput again. I've not been crafting lately due to stress in some part of my life.

So i did some pampering to ease the stress. I went for facial at estee in Isetan, KLCC. Samantha, my beautician, she's very good and always had a good conversation with her. Then, i bought voucher for hot stone treatment at Kanebo for only RM58. Good deal.

Then, i went for hair treatment at a new place in UOA Bangsar, The Cut. The salon is near to LRT Bangsar. Nice place and the price is also very attractive. I'm considering to change my stylist.

I am so proud of my nephew, learnt to crochet from me and being so macho about it. Now he's crocheting his first hat. I will introduce him to CrochetDude. My niece also learnt from me and now she's on her third project. I'm a proud auntie.

I Heart this Art and Craft Website

I heart this art and craft website :

Lion Brand Yarn

This website is a great source for beautiful pattern especially knitting and crochet. They have thousands of free patterns and this is such an inspiration to me. I love their flower motifs and amigurumi. I subscribed to their e-newsletters, became a fan in facebook and visited their blog regularly.

They have combined both of my favourite things, charity and craft with their 'Charity Knit & Crochet-Along'. I've followed their footstep and doing it locally with my bff, Betty. Right now we're crocheting caps/hats for orphan and cancer kids.

You Belong With Me

I just can't understand why did Kanye West did such things to Taylor Swift and stolen her most important moment at VMA. What West needs is a good spanking. My heart goes to Swift and in total support of her. She deserves the Best Female Video. I love 'You Belong With Me' video. Simple and yet you feel like watching a whole movie. Any girls could relate to that story and its reminded you of your school sweetheart.

Weekend

For two whole day i was tatting day and night. But no workpiece really satisfy me so i guess i suffered 'crafters block'. So i went shopping with my boyfriend. I had a good time with him. I bought 2 pairs of shoes and life is so much sweeter after that. For us ladies, we never had enough shoes.

Then we went for our dinner to Tupai-Tupai Restaurant. The place was really packed. The food is really good and not too expensive. All bright and happy shiny people there.

After a really good day, now i crocheted a little flower and had some tatting design in my mind.

Daddy Dearest

Zakaria Hj. Long Kasim

1936 - 2009

It was such a beautiful Sunday morning in August, my dearest was laid to rest. Sunday is his favourite day. The day where he went to Sunday Market wearing his best 'baju batik' and buying all our favourite foods. Seeing his final moment was just so heartbreaking.

The most handsome, gentleman and funniest guy in my life. No more jokes and stories of 'orang kampung'. No one to to remind me to eat oranges. When i've problem in my relationship, he was the one to cheer me up. No one to treat me the best 'Nasi Beriani' in Temerloh.

Life will never be the same without him

Secret Garden

Finally, i've framed 'Secret Garden' last week before i went to Ho Chi Minh. My Secret Garden is a combination of my love towards crochet and tatting. It look aged since it took me a long while to 'grow' it.

Butterfly is crocheted and flowers and lace are tatted.

Ho Chi Minh City - Part I

This is a short trip to HCMC with my friend, Yuko last weekend. Our first visit to Vietnam. We got this really good deal from airasia promotions. Swine flu fashion, wearing a mask especially at the airports.

First day, we went to Cu Chi Tunnel, the historic underground tunnel. Two hours drive from HCMC. The place is beautiful in an eerie kind of ways. You can feel the hardship and their suffering living in the small tunnels and the bombings.

My first video project.

Tatting Oh Tatting Oh So Delicate

I'm so into tatting now. I learnt tatting from an old needlework book. I tatted since high school for my crochet trimming and lace.

Now i'm designing for earrings. The sketch in the photo is slightly different from the piece.

Flow in Knitting

I'm in the middle of reading 'Flow - The Psychology of Optimal Experience' by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. A very interesting book. I love that he did mention about knitting in Flow.

'People were happiest when they were just talking to one another, when they gardened, knitted, or were involved in a hobby; all of these activities require few material resources, but they demand a relatively high investment in psychic energy.'

an excerpt from 'Flow - The Psychology of Optimal Experience' by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.

My Experimental Journey with Knit Stitch

I've introduced my peach vest. It was actually my experiment with different type of knitting stitches and patterns. All in one vest.

Front, 3 types of stitches, namely rib stitch, honeycomb (cable pattern), braided (cable pattern) and garter stitch in between the cable patterns.

Rib stitch is just a simple stitch for waistband by working knit then purl alternately in one row. then on the next row, work in purl or knit as they come. It gives elasticity to the patterns.

Cable stitches is usually work with more than 3 needles. Unfortunately, i don't keep the original pattern of the cable stitches. But i've found honeycomb pattern in lion yarn brand website. I love their website and patterns. If you want the detail of the honeycomb pattern just drop me an email.

I chose garter stitch in between the cable patterns was to make cable pattern stands out. This is worked by making every row in purl.

Knit Knit Away

Besides embroidery, my mom also knits. She made us sweaters when we were kids. But my mom said only my brother's sweater survive after all these years . Maybe one day i'll post picture of that sweater in this blog (maybe after a good long digging in our old closet)

My loves toward needlework is so much influence by her and my grandmother (later i'll talk about my beloved 'tok'). I learnt knitting from my mom when i was 12 years old. This peach sweater, i consider as my best knitting project.

Welcome

Blog title is a picture of my mother's old tracing paper for her embroidery. She embroidered elegantly on bed linen and tablecloth. She is a perfectionist and i had tough time learning the art from her. I had to repeat the same stitch over and over again until it was perfect. Now i'm becoming more and more like her, my art must be perfect.
